Financial Literacy for REALTORS

Realtors are typically self-employed independent contractors. As such, they are effectively a “business of one.” Financial literacy is a critical key to making well-reasoned financial decisions. This course reviews various concepts integral to both your personal and professional long-term financial success.

The course and instructor are both approved by the New Jersey Real Estate Commission. The course satisfies 3 Credits of Core Instruction.

Course Objective:

Participants will learn important financial concepts, techniques and strategies to build the financial life they want!

Course Topics:

• The Planning Process: Goal setting, budgeting, cash flow management and tax implications

• Managing Risk: Review different types of insurance (life, long-term care, healthcare, disability, etc.)

• Saving and Investing: Critical concepts like time value of money, compounding, inflation, diversification, and more.

• How the “Market” works: Financial Instruments (mutual fund v. ETF), market indexes, performance measures, etc.

• Retirement Planning: Sources of income, goal setting, types of retirement plans, etc.

Course Goal: The goal of this course is to instill safety awareness and habits as second nature so that real estate professionals—as well as their clients and customers—know how to avert or respond to dangerous situations and avoid harm as they practice their profession.
Learning Objectives: Motivate real estate professionals to realize their exposure to risks. Follow safety best practices when showing property, conducting an open house, working in the office, and driving alone or with clients or customers. Learn how to quickly assess a potentially dangerous situation and take appropriate action. Safeguard your own and your clients’ personal data, as well as practice prudent use of social media and mobile phone technology. Encourage all agents and employees to follow safety best practices and company safety policies.

Let’s review options/ strategies buyers have to increase their chance of seeing their offer accepted, sellers have to make the right choice, and overall keep good working relationships with everyone!
 
After reviewing the legal and ethical requirements (such as confidentiality issues, disclosures, escalation clauses), the course will discuss the various scenarios buyers and sellers may encounter, discuss the pros and cons of various strategies, so that clients can ultimately make an informed decision on their course of action.  Risk management suggestions for the licensees facing multiple offers will conclude the course.
